ABOUT NATE
Nate comes to our Summer Club with the experience of training some of the best athletes in High School, College
and track clubs in California and Washington. He has trained some of the top ten female jumpers in California to
include  Jackie Anderson who jumped 41-00.25 in triple jump and Amy Littlepage who jumped 20-5 in the long
jump, both from Mt Miguel High School.

The very first Washington athlete that Nate worked with was Diana Knight who as a USATF 2001 Junior Olympic
Champion won the bantam girls long jump with a 14-05.75 foot jump.

For the past 6 years Nate has trained small groups and has been a volunteer coach at Curtis High School. He has
been credited with helping to produce some of the most excellent athletes and championship medalists.  Most
recently, he’s worked with Andrea Geubelle who won this year’s USATF Junior Olympic medal for triple jump
with a 39-08.50 jump and a 4A WA State Championship long jump of 19-08.25 and Stephan Ellis who jumped 49-
02 in triple jump at the Arcadia Invite and 22-07.00 in the long jump at The Brooks Meet of Champions. He also
worked with Zach Smith from Kentlake High School who placed 2nd at this year’s USATF Junior Olympics with a
23-10.50 long jump and Megan Paulsen from Bellevue Christian High School who jumped a 37-80.50 1st place
triple jump and a 2nd place long jump of 17-02.75 at the WA State Championships. Megan received a full athletic
scholarship to Western Washington University.

Nate has also worked with past high school athletes such as Sarah Burns, who won both the 4A WA State long
jump Championship in 2003 (19-06.75) and the Triple Jump Championship in 2004 (38-07.5) and Moreno Zapata,
who triple jumped 48-00.25 in 2003 (winning the Washington State Sophomore Record). Moreno went on to
record the 2nd best jump in high school history of Washington State with a 50- 11.50 triple jump, guided by Nate’s
training.  Both Sarah and Moreno received full athletic scholarships to Washington State University.

It is true that most of these athletes came to Nate with natural athletic ability. Each of them also had their individual
commitment, dedication and drive to reach their own capacity for development. However, with Nate’s technical
knowledge, nutritional advice, experience and commitment, they were able to further their goals and dreams.  Each
of them made a choice to work with Nate and realized that he could bring out their best potential.  Surely all of
them were grateful that Nate was there to back them up.  Some still, although in college, come back to seek his
training periodically because they know he’s the best out there. His gift of motivating athletes to recognize their
own potential is practically priceless.

The program and demand for Nate’s training regime are growing. It has produced a need to become
more organized. In order for Nate to maximize his time teaching, strength training, conditioning, as well
as traveling to practices and track meets, we will need to respect his efforts and be timely. When Nate

This is a DEAL.  Even with the athletes sharing the travel expense its one heck of a deal!!!   When you
take into consideration the possible scholarship money, it is pennies on the dollar. Potentially little or no
college bills for 4 years!! Look at the long term big picture .
Note: *Unattached- refers to those athletes who have no club affiliation.

All athletes who participate in the Flying AJ'S Track Club will be required to
register with USATF and obtain a membership number.  Athletes may list
themselves as an *unattached athlete unless they plan to participate on a relay
team, then they must be listed as a team member. All athletes under the age of
18 traveling as *unattached and not a member of the team MUST be
accompanied by a parent or guardian.  (Being under a team name allows
coaches to access you and Nate easier as they like to have contact with
coaches)

It will be the responsibility of all high school athletes to know the WIAA rules
and regulations and to reference them to stay within those boundaries so as not
to be disqualified.

All athletes will be required to pay a $60.00 registration fee to the Track Club.
Coach Helen will continue to make hotel, air fare and transportation
arrangements for the team. Parents can make their own hotel, airfare and
transportation arrangements however, we will ask that you provide your
athletes itinerary so that Helen, as well as Nate, may assist in the event an
athlete is traveling alone, needs assistance or is delayed.

Athletes traveling with the team will be required to stay in the same hotel.
(Fundraising opportunities will be available to offset the registration fee). This
will allow the coaches and athletes to meet and communicate prior to meets.
We also want to use these traveling trips to help the athletes become self
sufficient and be able to experience how it is to travel with a college team.
There is a lot to learn about sharing a room, eating together, supporting one
another and respecting that each one of them is there to do their best. Nightly
meetings are held to work out all the bugs.   We may ask parents to support
the team in transporting their athletes as well as others.

For Club travel athletes that attend meets will be required to share in the
expenses of Nate’s hotel, airfare, transportation, as well as a daily stipend.
Helen will inform everyone well in advance of the trip of his/her portion that is
required.

Athletes traveling *unattached who will require Nate’s assistance and/or
training will pay the set rate for Nate’s travel expenses. (Please refer to the fee
schedule on the track clubs web site).

It is our goal to plan attending meets and take advantage of cheaper flights and
arrangements. Most of the hotels will consist of kitchen accommodations so
that the athletes will be able to save on food expenses as well as eat better
meals. It is our goal to stay in extended stay hotels that offer 1 and 2 bedroom
accommodations so that we can house more athletes for less money. The more
attend, the less for all. Please keep in mind some of the meets will have high
standards and only 1 to 3 athletes will be able to attend (thus increasing the
cost).

All athletes will be required to keep themselves up to date through the web page
or email communications with Helen as to the meet plans. If you are 18 you are
expected to be responsible for communicating directly to Nate and Helen. This
will allow Nate to coach.

In order to allow us to finalize travel arrangements, hotel accommodations,
transportation details and answer all questions and concerns, both athletes and
parents will be required to attend information meetings. All athletes will be
asked to sign an agreement about a general code of conduct for practice, travel
expectations, and respect for fellow athletes as wells as the sport it self.

Fundraising options will be available to help offset some of the expenses.  We
strongly encourage everyone to participate because it provides financial relief
and also helps the team to rally and support one another.   Further information
and details will be provided, as those opportunities become available.

he is a volunteer Coach at Curtis High School in Tacoma, Wa. It
should be clear that the sessions that we conducts during the
school year August 1st until the start of the track season are
limited to conditioning and weights. The technical training and
coaching is done during the summer months and during the
track season. Any Indoor meets are limited to observation and
consulting. Nate and the Flying AJ'S follow these rules issued by
the WIAA.

In Track and Field, like many other sports, athletes have
individual technical trainers in the off season due to the state
restrictions that limit the ability of High School coaches to do
technical work during the off season.

It is always our goal to provide you the best opportunities for
your athletes and to follow the rules of the sport.  As a part of
the USA Track and Field Association it is important to us to
represent and promote the sport of track and field in the best
way.
